Settling In and Thankful

These first two weeks, our primary task has been to settle into life in this new place.  We’re learning our way around, figuring out how to shop in a store where we can’t read anything, getting bank accounts, insurance, furniture, ac, internet, etc. Everything takes twice as long, but God has been teaching us patience and he has given us incredible teammates to help. Last Friday, our appliances were delivered from the store and on Monday our furniture arrived (Thank the Lord for Matthew and Honda, employees who spoke English and helped us buy what we needed). With thanksgiving we ate our very first meal cooked with food from our new fridge as we sat on our new couch. We’re so thankful because those things are a direct result of your generosity. We are also thankful because the ground was getting a little harder each night (especially for preggers over here) and God provided relief for us at just the right time.

In between furnishing the house, checking out language schools, and learning to navigate the big city, we’ve had the opportunity to get to know the people on our team. Let me just say that they are INCREDIBLE and we couldn’t have done anything so far without them.  Everyone has dropped their pressing responsibilities to take us places and teach us things, set up our internet, or cook us a meal, and we really can’t express how thankful we are for them.  Each day I grow more thankful for the diverse personalities and gifts God has assembled, not only to help us, but to make CBI run. We’re a mix of missionaries and volunteers from numerous countries. We’ve got jobs ranging from running an entire seminary to making coffee once a week, but we all have the same goal – to see Jesus glorified among the people of Japan. Please keep praying for us as we try to figure out exactly where we fit within the team, what we can contribute to the ministry, and how we can be a blessing to these new friends who have been such a blessing to us. We can’t wait to tell you about week 3!

  3. So glad that you guys are settling in. Thank God for the “basic things” that we take for granted ie. bed, furniture, being able to communicate and be understood :). So glad The Lord is blessing and keeping you. Thank you so much for your blog. I enjoy getting the news and seeing the pictures. Love you all.

  4. Welcome to your new HOME! You are really nesting. Congrats, Brooks on your celebration of you 1 year of ordination. What a great way to be serving in the place God has called you to.

  5. Your home is beautiful! Your supporters ARE very generous, and I am so VERY thankful for them and for your teammates! Please give each teammate a hug from your parents who wish they could be there to help. And congratulations from me, too, on your ordination anniversary! I love you both and BABY Cain!

  6. What a cozy little apartment. We’re SO happy for you to finally have furniture. It’s these times of sleeping on the floor and drinking canned coffee from a vending machine that make good stories after the fact, though! But, oh! It will be good to have your own furniture and coffee made in your own kitchen! Just thanking God with you for His many blessings. He is SO good!!! 🙂
