Lately I’ve been reading Paul’s letters in the New Testament and the thing that strikes me over and over again is his joy and gratitude for his supporting churches.

We might not tell you all often enough, but we take joy in the partnership that we have with each one of you – the ones who give financially, the ones who pray for us regularly, the ones who keep up with us, and the ones who share their lives with us as well. We appreciate you and we have found so much joy and comfort in these partnerships over the past 6 months.

” I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” Phil 1:3-5

I know it shouldn’t surprise us but every time we send out a newsletter with prayer requests, God immediately seems to provide answers to our prayers. We often send updates asking for prayer but rarely get to send updates reflecting on God’s great provision and thanking you for making requests to our Father on our behalf.

Many of you have been praying for us for years as we considered the mission field and asked God to provide direction, finances, and partnerships – and now, two years later, we are so grateful to be in Japan on a wonderful team in an incredible city with awesome ministry opportunities. Many of you even joined us for years in praying for a baby and now, two years later, we are just weeks away from meeting our daughter! Many of you recently have been praying for us in language school as we try to comprehend this complicated language – and now we’ve (somehow?!) passed on to level two! Although it seems less exciting than a move to Japan or a baby, we asked for prayer for a car and within hours of asking for prayer we received the exact car we wanted for under our budget! We asked you to pray for the East Asia retreat and for our friends the Moores who went to serve the MK’s – they have returned after a fruitful and encouraging time with the missionary families and they are grateful for your prayers! (We promise to send an update on that trip in our next newsletter). We asked you to pray for the youth group we started at our church and God has brought many students who are hungry to discuss his word and pray together with their peers.

These are just some of the ways that God has provided and cared for us, and he has used you and your prayers to do it. We couldn’t do this alone. Thank you for being in this with us!

In front of our new car (which Brooks has affectionately named “Barney”) with one of our students and Niwa-san (who found the car for us)

The look of shock over our passing grade of “C” indicating that we could move on to Level two in Japanese school.

Us with three of our students from the English class we taught over the summer. We asked you to pray for fruit to come from that time and just last week these three came out for our Game Night outreach event.
